  • Every digit has a value depending on its place value.

  • Compare numbers by looking at the largest place value first.

  • Add trailing zeros if needed when comparing decimals (e.g. 2.4=2.402.4 = 2.402.4=2.40).

  • When ordering, start by comparing the whole number part, then the decimal places.
